In a few days my Weblog will celebrate its first anniversary. At 15th May 2009 I wrote my first weblog and telling my readers that I decided to start my own weblog and that the look and feel of the weblog would probably change over de the first few weeks. But nothing happened. The format stayed the same. But not the postings on this site. Starting with a few not much saying stories I more and more published stories on gadgets and my electronics. The most exciting time was of course the time I sent out my publications about the non-crisis at Audax. A link to my weblog was placed on a few sites and I had to think of bringing Google Ads to my site <grin>. So after a year it’s time to change the theme of this weblog a little bit. And on top of that it is time to share some figures, because everything you all do and don’t on this site is monitored (of course) by Google Analytics. And what did Big Brother Google tell me?

It looks like the week of the part 2 stories. But this one is a post with a great thank you! Thanks to all the people that visited my farewell party on July 9th. I asked everyone not to bring any wines or liquors but to spend a small amount to the KNGF. Click on the Image below to see the result.

That my Blog post with the same name would have such an impact, I could not foresee, but the media want to write juicy stories (especially when it’s about media).  It’s just like stories going around: it starts with a fly and it ends with an elephant. And of course people only read, what they want to read, making their own assumptions.

There was one thing that I wanted to make clear: my transfer from Audax to Etamgroep did not have anything to do with the dismissal of Carel Bikkers. And I also wanted to make clear that there was (and is) no crisis at Audax. With all the publicity my weblog had, I succeeded in spreading that news. And the 2008 results,  that Audax has published last week, underlined my statement.

But all the media – after reading my weblog – concluded that I stated that Carel Bikkers wants to harm Audax. I did not, but readers who want to read such things, thought they find enough evidence between the lines to draw this conclusion. I had a telephone call with Carel earlier today and he stressed that he did not have anything to do with the two articles in De Telegraaf and he was not happy with these publications either. These articles were not only harming Audax but also harming his own case against Audax as well. And that is true!

Carel has stated in the press that he is going to court to challenge his dismissal. I do not want to be a part of that discussion and I also do not want to influence – not in any way – the course of justice. As far as I am concerned, this will be my last post on the Audax-Bikkers case. No further comments!

After having so many readers in the past week, due to links from Quote, Boekblad and VillaMedia (thank you Jan Dijkgraaf), I remembered a speech from Jacques de Leeuw, founder of Audax. It was approximately 11 years ago. It was a New Year speech or a speech at the Tilburg University, do not remember exactly. At that time he already spoke about the changing world in the publishing industry.

He said that everyone was more or less a publisher these days (1998). The word BLog was not invented yet, but more and more people were placing articles on the Internet. It is interesting to see that on one hand he was so right and maybe was far ahead of his time, but on the other hand no one expected it too take so long. At the end of the 20th century most of the people in publishing believed that newspapers did not have any right to exist. Within 10 years they would have been disappeared and moved to the Internet. Of course we all know that if one controls the media he can control the history. It was George Orwell with his book 1984 that taught us that you can control the past if you would be able to replace all the information that you did not like by the information that suits you right. He could not foresee the influence of the mass media in later years.

When a CFO and a CEO leave a media company at the same time, it is no rocket science that all the media want to know what is going on. Of course the fact that both left the company is true and also that they did that short after each other. But that does not mean that is has anything to do with the company, its Supervisory Board or Shareholders.

In Dutch you would translate this into “Maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen”. Every company is aware of this. Even in these difficult times.  Sometimes companies try to solve problems and/or discussions about claims they (think to) have on each other by proposing the difference in money (or a part of that) to be tansferred to charity. I am always wondering whether the “winning” side or the “losing” side makes the first proposal. I think it is the “losing” side. But nevertheless, all charity would of course not care what the story is behind the gift, they appreciate every gift, no matter how small or how big it is. And not just companies, individuals feel the need for CSR also. More and more you read in LinkedIn summaries about the charities that particular persons are involved with. Today, the CEO of Etam Groep, Beatrice Macdonald, made the following announcement:
